What is democracy?
A system of government run for the people, by the people. The people elect their leaders taht represent them in parliament.
What is democratic values?
Beliefs and ideals held by our society as a democracy. It makes democracy work. Examples: freedom, equality, respect
What is the Westminster system?
A form of parliamentary government Australia uses, originally from the UK. Features include a head of state, head of government, and cabinet.
What is participation?
Participation is contributing or taking part in society as a good citizen. Some examples of participation include protesting, staying informed, and participating in political discussion
What are Rights and responsibilities?
Our entitlements and duties as citizens. Rights ensure we get a say in how our country is run, and that we are also treated fairly in the process, and responsibilities ensure we contribute to society. Some examples of rights are the right to vote, the right to freedom of religion and protection against discrimination. Some responsibilities are voting in elections, obeying the law and paying taxes.
What is justice?
It the concept that we need to treat everyone in a manner that is fair and balanced.
