6.1 - Renewable Vs Nonrenewable Flashcards
(7 cards)
Renewable Energy Source
Replaced or regenerated naturally when it’s used at or near the rate of regeneration
Depletable Renewables
Renewable energy sources that can run out if overused
Examples: Biomass (wood, charcoal, ethanol)
Where does ethanol come from?
Corn
Nondepletable Renewables
Renewable energy sources that do not run out if over used
Examples: Solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal
Nonrenewable Energy Sources
Energy sources that only exist in fixed amount on earth and cannot be easily replaced or regenerated
Examples of nonrenewable energy sources
Example: Fossil fuels can take millions of years to form
Example: Coal, Oil, Natural gas
Example: Nuclear power
Nuclear Power
Energy generated from uranium and other radioactive fuels
