Psychotic Symptoms
- Psychological problems reflecting serious distortions in reality
Hallucinations
sensory perception that occurs in the absence of an external stimulus
Catatonic symptoms
- involve motor problems; holding body in rigid or bizarre positions; curling up; pacing aimlessly; refusing to move/speak
- frenzied motor activity

Brain Abnormalities: ventricles typically enlarged in individuals with schizophrenia
- decreases temporal lobes; activation of the amygdala and hippocampus and the symmetry of brains hemispheres
