What are single-word nouns?
A single-word noun is a noun in its simplest form.
What are verbal nouns?
Verbal nouns are derived from verbs.
What are gerunds?
Gerunds use the suffix -ing added after the verb.
What are infinitives?
Infinitives use to before the verb.
What are noun clauses?
Noun clauses uses subordinate clauses. Subordinate clauses consist of a subject and a predicate but can stand on its own.
What are adjectives as nouns?
Adjectives can be referred to as a noun.
What is the subject?
The subject is the noun being described or discussed in the sentence.
What is the predicate nominative?
Predicate nominative renames, identifies and defines the subject. It is usually followed by is, was, are, has been, can be.
What is the direct object?
The direct object is the receiver of the action. A transitive verb always follow a direct object.
What is the indirect object?
The indirect object is the receiver of the direct object.
What is the object complement?
The object complements rename, identify or modify the object.
What is the appositive?
The appositive identifies and explains the noun preceding it. If the appositive is removed from the sentence, the sentence would still make complete sense.
What is the object of the preposition?
The object of the preposition precedes a preposition, including of, which, in, for, into and among other prepositions.
