o Most reliable source of information
Secondary source
description of a study prepared by someone other an the researcher who conducted it
o Less reliable, can be bias based on authors thought, opinion or goal of the literature
Process for conducting a literature review
Identify a topic and research question
Develop a strategy
When searching the literature, start wide and narrow down, record what is available and relevant with each search
Search the literature
Using key words, phrases in databases
Read and critique literature that was found
Write a review
Theoretical literature
consists of a concept analysis, models, theories and conceptual frameworks that support a selected research problem and purpose
Empirical literature
compromised of knowledge derived from research
Seminal studies
promotes the initiation of a field of research
Landmark studies
published research that led to an important development or a turning point in a certain field of study
