6.3 quiz Flashcards
(6 cards)
1
Q
how would you calculate the molarity of a substance given the mass and volume?
A
- start with mass divided by volume
- divide by molar mass
2
Q
how would you calculate the mass of a substance given the molarity and volume?
A
- start with volume
- multiply by molarity divided by 1 L (not the L given in the problem!!)
- multiply by molar mass
3
Q
how would you calculate the volume of a substance given the mass and molarity?
A
- start with mass
- divide by molar mass
- divide by molarity
4
Q
what are the equations that make up the square of fun?
A
pH+pOH=14
pH=-log[H+]
[H+]=10^-pH
pOH=-log[OH-]
[OH-]=10^-pOH
[H+][OH-]=1x10^-14
5
Q
what is the formula for titration and how is it different from the regular formula?
A
MacidVacid(#H+)=MbaseVbase(#OH-)
you need to look in the chemical equation for the values used for H+ and OH-
6
Q
what do you need to know for writing reactions?
A
- include charges if applicable!!!
- if there is a dissociation eqn with an H anywhere in the formulas know that H+ will be one of your products and base the rest of the equation on that
- whenever there’s an acd-base neutralization H2O should be the only place where you see H in the products
