GI upset Dry mouth Nausea Sexual dysfunction INCREASED RISK OF SUICIDE
Why is it important to monitor epileptics prescribed SSRIs?
SSRIs lower seizure threshold
Who cannot be prescribed SSRIs
Epileptics
Peptic ulcer sufferers
Sever hepatic impairment
What must be monitored in patients taking citalopram?
QT interval as it can cause QT prolongation causing arrythmias
What is contra indicated with SSRIs
MOA inhibitors
NSAIDS (must give a PPI)
Citalopram and antipsychotics cannot be prescribed together due to both prolonging the QT interval
How long does it take SSRIs to work?
Weeks to month
How long are SSRIs prescribed for in depression?
At least six months, and in recurrent / severe depression at least 2 years
How do you monitor SSRIs?
2 weeks
