Q

6 things the circularly system are responsible for transporting

A

Oxygen from the lungs - everywhere
Carbon dioxide from everywhere - the lungs
Digested food(glucose, amino acids) from small intestine - everywhere
Waste from liver - kidney
Heat from liver and muscles - everywhere
Hormones to communicate` between cells

Q

4 stages of a Double circulation

A

Deoxygenated Blood enters the heart
pumped to the lungs to get oxygen.
Blood is now oxygenated and travels back to the heart.
Blood is then pumped around the body so every cell gets its vital oxygen so that every cell can carry out the process of respiration.”

16
Q

2 things about a capillary

A
  • walls a single cell thick

- very tiny vessel with narrow lumen

17
Q

What do arteries do

A

Carry blood away from the heart

18
Q

What do veins do

A

Carry blood back to the heart

19
Q

What do capillaries do

A

Allow substances to exchange at body cells e.g. food and oxygen

20
Q

What is blood pressure

A

The pressure of blood being pumped round the body

21
Q

3 treatments for high blood pressure

A

Exercise, diet and medication

22
Q

When is your blood pressure lowest

A

When you are sleeping

23
Q

What is your blood made up of (4)

A
  • red blood cells
  • white blood cells
  • platelets
  • plasma
24
Q

What do red blood cells do

A

Carry oxygen around the body

25
Q

What do platelets do

A

These are what cos you to form a scab or clot

26
Q

What do white blood cells do

A

Part of your immune system and attack bacteria and viruses

27
Q

What is plasma

A

Liquid part that contains water carbon dioxide and urea

28
Q

4 things About red blood cells

A
  • very small and have no nucleus
  • biconcave in shape, large surface area
  • contain iron pigment, haemoglobin which picks up
  • When oxygen combines with haemoglobin it forms oxyhemoglobin which is red
29
Q

4 things about white blood cells

A
  • slightly larger than re blood cells
  • protect the body
  • able to detect bacteria and destroy them before they harm the body
  • phagocytosis is when they engulf the bacteria to destroy them
30
Q

4 things about platelets

A
  • tiny cell fragments
  • carried in the blood
  • when exposed to air help form fibres at the cut called a clot
  • makes scabs which keep the wound clean while skin grows
