. Introduced the Civil Rights Act/ Bill in 1964
. It was the last major piece of Civil Rights Legislation issued in the United States.
. The Bill ended legal discrimination in the work place on the basis of race or sex.
. Established the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission which was designed to enforce this law.

What did Johnson introduce in 1965 and what effect did this have on Civil Rights?

A

. Introduced the Voting Rights Act in 1965
. The Act removed the literacy tests and Poll taxes as a way of accessing whether anyone was fit to vote.

.by the end of 1966, only 4 out of the traditional 13 southern states had less than 50% of African Americans registered to vote
. It also allowed for far more African Americans to be elected to office.

. It can be argued that the only reason Johnson introduced the Civil Rights legislation he did was so that the Civil Rights movement in general would be silenced and would not prove a problem again during his presidential term.
