Q

Describe an experiment to investigate force and acceleration

A

Place a piece of card on a trolly
Get a light gate and set up to appropriate hight
Get another light gate and place 50cm apart
Place the trolly to piece of string, of which has 140g attached.
Release trolly and catch at end
Repeat using different masses

Q

What is weight caused by

A

The pull of gravity acting on a mass. Like other forces, weight is measured in newtons and has both a magnitude and direction

16
Q

What is terminal velocity

A

The final speed of which an object can reach naturally

17
Q

How is terminal velocity reached

A

When falling, weight is larger than the upward air resistance, therefore the object accelerates.

As the object speeds up, the drag increases

Drag eventually equals the weight. The force is balanced! Terminal velocity has been reached

18
Q

In a vacuum, how come a bowling ball travels as fast a s a feather

A

No air resistance

19
Q

At terminal velocity, are there forces acting on the object

A

Yes, they are just balanced, so the object continues to fall at a constant rate
