Q

Synovial structures of the carpus, three joint spaces, which joint spaces communicate

A

Carpal sheath (distal radius – mid metacarpus) – DDFT, SDFT, AL – DDFT

Antebrachiocarpal, middle carpal, carpometacarpal, second two communicate

Q

DJD of the carpus

early (3) versus late (4) changes

A

Early – increased intracapsular soft tissue (synovial effusion and/or synovial proliferation), osteophyte formation, enthesophyte formation

Late – narrowing of the joint space, subchondral lucency, Subchondral bone sclerosis (technically trabecular bone adjacent to subchondral bone plate), ankylosis

Q

Three types of carpal bone fractures with definitions

A

Chip - involve one articular margin of the bone, frequently occurs in racehorses

Corner – similar to chip fracture however larger

Slab – extends through a bone involving the proximal and distal articular surfaces
