Q

Egg cell

A

Main function: carry the female DNA and nourish the developing embryo
• contains nutrients in the cytoplasm to feed the embryo
• has a haploid nucleus
• membrane changes structure after fertilisation to stop more sperm getting in

Q

Sperm cell

A

Main function: transport male’s DNA to the female’s egg
• long tail so it can swim
• lost of mitochondria to provide it with energy
• acrosome where it stores enzymes needed to digest its way through the membrane of the egg cell
