Q

How true is it that the short term affects of an earthquake are mainly social while the long term effects are mainly economic?

A

Quite true.
Short term effects are concerned with rescuing people and possessions, working as a community to help each other and sharing resources.
Long term things people need is money. Social issues are still important but often people can only help out one another so much.
Housing/infrastructure/electricity all need money to rebuild.
