What is special about the type of bacterium involved?

A

Needs to be Group A beta haemolytic

These carry the M protein virulence factor
- Nephritogenic

Pathology?

A

Type 3 hypersensitivity

  • Immune complexes deposited in GBM
  • C3 compliment laid down
  • Cytokines and proteases damage GBM so large molecules filtered through
