Q

what does the cerebral hemisphere control?

A

controls muscle functions, speech, thought, emotions, reading, writing and learning

the right hemisphere controls the left side of the body

Q

what is the general function for the Diencephalon?

A

relays sensory information between the brain regions and controls many autonomic functions of the peripheral nervous system

Q

what does the brain stem control?

A

the flow of messages between the brain and the rest of the body and also controls basic body functions such as breathing, swallowing and heart rate

Q

what is the reflex arc?

A

the circuit travelled by impulses producing a reflex action; receptor organ, afferent nerve, interneuron, efferent nerve, effector organ (muscle)

16
Q

Regarding the perception of pain, what happens at the receptor level?

A

sensory receptors detect a stimulus and transmit the information into the spinal cord via the afferent nerve fibre

17
Q

Regarding the perception of pain, what happens at the Circuit level?

A

Sensory information travels up the spinal cord in the ascending tracts (fibres may cross on the way) to the thalamus

18
Q

regarding the perception of pain, what happens at the perception level?

A

information sent by the thalamus to the correct areas of the somatosensory cortex to precisely identify the location of the stimulus
