Q

Freshwater pond ecosystem

Pond bottom

A

Very little oxygen or light. Decomposes or scavengers live there.

Q

Freshwater pond ecosystems

Mid water

A

Fish are main predators. Food found on pond bottom or pond surface. Breathe through skin or gills

Q

Freshwater pond ecosystems

Pond surface

A

Animals breathe through gills, skin or lungs. Oxygen and light here. Ducks, water boatmen, midge larvae and tadpoles

Q

Freshwater pond ecosystems

Pond margin

A

Plants provide sheltered habitat for insects and small animals such as frogs. Lots of oxygen and light so plants such as marsh marigold thrive

Q

Changes to ecosystem caused by human management include:

A

Introducing more fish
Altering drainage of land which may influence amount of water
Changing pH of water
Altering nutrients levels of water if fertilisers are leached into water resulting in eutrophication. Hyper nutrition

15
Q

How does latitude affect climate?

A

Low latitude=high temperature

Sun rays travel shorter distance to equator, more concentrated

Q

How does high & low air pressure affect climate?

A

Low pressure areas associated with cloud and precipitation

1) air rises it cools, condenses and form clouds
2) Water droplets in clouds increase in size
3) Eventually becomes too heavy to be held and fall as precipitation

Air above equator very hot and risen, low pressure
