rex Icenorum Prasutagus, divitiis diu clarus, Caesarem heredem duasque filias scripserat, tali obsequio ratus et regnum domum suam procul iniuria futuram esse.
King Prasutagus of the Iceni, for a long time famous through his wealth, had made Caesar his heir as well as his two daughters, thinking that by such submissiveness both his kingdom and his home would be safe from injustice
quod contra verit, adeo ut regnum a centurionibus, domus a servis velut capta vastarentur.
this turned out just the opposite, to such a degree that his kingdom was plundered by centurions, and his home by slaves, just as if it had been captured.
iam primum uxor eius Boudica verberata et filiae stupro violatae sunt:
to begin with, his wife Boudica was beaten and his daughters raped;
praecipes omnes Icenorum, quasi Romani totam regionem muneri accepissent, avitis bonis exuuntur, et propinqui regis inter servos habebantur.
all the chiefs of the Iceni were deprived of their ancestral estates, as though the Romans had taken the entire region as a gift and the king’s relatives were treated like slaves
qua contumelia et metu graviorum permoti, quod in formam provinciae cesserant, rapiunt arma;
alarmed by this humiliation and by the fear of more serious injustices, because they had been reduced to the status of a province they seized arms
commoti sunt ad rebellionem Trinobantes et qui alii nondum servitio fracti, recipere libertatem occultis coniurationibus pepigerant
moved to rebellion were the Trinobantes and others who, though not yet broken by slavery, had pledged themselves by secret conspiracies to take back their freedom
