7.1 Study Guide Flashcards
What is the cell cycle?
Mitosis
Interphase-
- G1
-G0
-S
-G2
What is the role of the growth factors?
stimulate cell growth
What is the role of cyclins?
regulates the cell cycle progression
What is the role of cdks?
regulates cell cycle checkpoints.
What is the role of p53?
activates other genes to fix mutations.
What are proto-oncogenes?
Helps cells grow and divide during the cell cycle or helps the cells stay alive.
What is a tumor suppressor genes?
slows down cell division or tells the cell to die at a certain time
Why do mutations in tumor suppressor genes lead to cancer?
Cells can grow out of control
Why do mutations in oncogenes lead to cancer?
It can cause cells to grow out of control.
What is the difference between G1 and G2?
G1 is growing to prepare for DNA to be copied, G2 is growing to prepare for cell division
