What is a population?
Everyone of a specific group ex all UP students
What is a sample?
A group from a specific population
ex 100 UP students
How is mean written for a population?
Mu the m/ u looking thing
How is the standard deviation written for a population?
The triangle thing
Does parameter describe?
A characteristic of a whole population
What symbol is used as the mean for a sample?
x hat
What stands for the standard deviation of a sample?
S
What does a statistic describe?
A characteristic of a sample from a population
What are the 3 different types of bias?
Sampling bias
Measurement bias
Nonresponse bias
What does sampling bias mean?
It means taking a sample that is not representative of the whole population ex only freshmen were surveyed out of all UP students
What does measurement bias mean?
It means that the questions that are asked will cause people to give not true answers for example students rounding up their GPAs
What does nonresponse bias mean?
It means that the data has been affected by a certain group of participants not responding for example students with lower gpa’s not responding or filling out a survey that asks about gpa’s
What is a SRS?
A simple random sample meaning that the people chosen to respond is based on something like liscense plate number or another random method
Does a smaller standard error mean more or less percision?
more
What do all the probabilities of a graph have to add up to?
1
what does 4 C 2 or combination mean?
It’s to find out the probability of 2 being chosen out of 4
How would you solve for 4 C 2? And what would you get?
you would solve by going 4!/2! 2! or in other words 4x3x2x1/2x1x2x1 which would equal 12/2 or 6
