A
  • The hollow organ composed of cardiac muscle tissue called myocardium
  • covered with a loose fibrous sac called pericardium
  • each side of the heart is divided onto two chambers(total of 4)

What do valves do

A
  • Valves control the direction of blood flow

- open and close in response to pressure changes as the heart squeezes(systole) and relaxes(diastole)

  • Atrioventricular valves: between atria and ventricles
  • left side: bicuspid or mitral valve
  • right side: tricuspid valve
  • semilunar valve
