Respiratory- Circulation and Lungs Flashcards

1
Q

Pulmonary circulation vs bronchial circulation

A

Pulmonary circulation
• Pulm. arteries wrap around areolar sacs
• Diffusion of oxygen + CO

Bronchial circulation
• Blood supply from aorta to supply lungs, muscles supporting lungs

Q

Conducting Epithelium vs Respiratory Epithelium

A

• Conducting: contain cartilage rings- prevent collapse

Q

characteristics of conducting vs respiratory epithelium

A
  • Cilia disappears in respiratory epithelium= tiny spaces prevents movement of mucus
  • Club cells more prolific in lower conducting part
  • Elastic fibres: all way as requires stretch (elastic potential energy= aids in recoil of lungs)

Q

Identify Artery, Vein, Bronchiole

A

• Bronchiole= cartilage (blue), Smooth muscle (red), lymphocytes bunch (green), epithelium columnar + darker + thicker

7
Q

respiratory bronchiole cells + role

A

• Simple Cuboidal club cells line the surface of the smooth muscle (SM) respiratory bronchioles.
o CC secrete pulmonary secretglobins (similar to pulmonary surfactant) which protect bronchiole epithelium

Q

what does surfactant do

A

reduces surface tension of blood/air barrier

o If premature child: cant produce surfactant + lungs cant expand(cant overcome pressure) > given surfactant

Q

function of type 1 and 2 pneumocytes

A
  • Type I: squamous cell part of air blood barrier)

* Type II: rounded nucleus surrounded by noticeable amount of cytoplasm. Produces surfactant.
