7.2 Flashcards
(12 cards)
what is chromatin
a single strand of coiled DNA
What is a chromosome
A body of two strands of identical DNA, connected by a centromere
What is a centromere
the location that the replicated DNA attaches to the original strand
What are sister Chromatids
the original and replicated strands of cromatin
What are homologous chromosomes
The second type of chromosome that pairs with the first, one chromosome from mom one from dad
What happens in Interphase
The cell prepares to Replicate DNA, replicates the DNA, the nucleus begins to dissolve
What happens in prophase
DNA forms chromosomes, spindle fibers elongate, nucleus is completely disolved
what happens in metaphase
chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell, spindle fibers attach and begin to pull on chromosomes
What happens in Anaphase
chromosomes are pulled apart towards opposit ends of the cell by spindle fibers
what happens in telophase
cells separate and the nucleus reforms around a single set of DNA
In what order does mitosis happen
