3.11 ATP Flashcards

1
Q

How is ATP suited to energy transfer?

A
  • it is soluble
  • it releases energy in small quantities which prevents energy wastage

Q

How is ATP formed?

A

ATP is formed in respiration through a condensation reaction. Hydrolysis of ATP produces ADP by removing one of the phosphates. This hydrolysis reaction releases energy that can be uses in metabolic reactions
