12 members of the public but there may be three extra if it is extra lengthy incase someone gets sick or has to leave
what is the process of choosing a jury called

what is the role of a criminal jury
listen to evidence and concentrate during the trial listen to and follow the directions of the judge peace together the evidence and decide whether the accused is guilty or not guilty
who are people who cannot sit on a jury
if they are disqualified, which means in prison or having serious criminal history. They are ineligible if they are lawyers police officers or anyone who works in the justice system. Or excused if they just had a baby or have a serious medical condition that requires ongoing treatment.
what is the difference between a unanimous and a majority verdict?
Anonymous is where all 12 jurors decide the same way whereas majority is where all but one of the jurors agree
what are stengths of the jury system?
independent impartial allows the community to be involved and decision. Decision is more likely to be fair and correct when made by 12 people rather than one
weaknesses of the jury system
jurors do not give reasons for their decisions. The task is difficult and jury trial may result in delays.
