Insecure- Avoidant Attachement

Occurs: When infant has parents who discourage overt signs of either affection or distress & do not readily offer sympathy or comfort.

Characterised: Minimal expressions of emotion in that parents

Mother’s Responsivness: Disengaged, Dismissing, Punitive

  • Child’s State:* Not very explorative, Emotionally Distant, Down regulates in time of stress to remain close
  • Infant believes:* Subconsciously thinks- needs will not be met

Disorganised Attachment

Develops when the parent has so many unresolved emotional issues from own past they have no mental space left for baby

  • Characteristics:* Parent unable to sooth, comfort or contain their disressed or anxious infant
  • Mother’s Responsivness: Atypical, Frightening, Anomalous*
  • Infant Characterisitcs:* Depressed, Angry, Passive, Non-responsive
  • Infant belief/ fulfillment of child’s needs:* Severley confused w/ no stratergy to have needs met
