Q

What is the function of plasma?🧽

A
  • Plasma contains proteins that help blood to clot🧽
  • It also transports substances through the blood🧽
  • Blood plasma also contains glucose and other dissolved nutrients.🧽

Q

What is the function of red blood cells?👹

A
  • Red blood cells carry oxygen. 👹
  • Red blood cells also remove carbon dioxide from your body, 👹transporting it to the lungs for you to exhale.
  • Red blood cells are made inside your bones, in the bone marrow.👹

Q

What is the function of white blood cells😇

A

White blood cells are the cells of the immune system that are involved in protecting the body against both infectious disease and foreign invaders.😇

Q

(5) Features of the artery🦶🏿

A
Lots of smooth muscle🦶🏿
Its got epithical tissue🦶🏿
Stretchy connective tissue🦶🏿
Carries blood away from the heart🦶🏿
It expands and contracts🦶🏿
(aWAY + aRTERY)

Q

(4) Features of the vein❄️

A

Veins are thin-walled❄️
Their lumen is larger than arteries. ❄️
Veins have valves which maintain the unidirectional flow of blood, even against gravity.❄️
Carries blood in the heart (veINs)❄️

Q

Features of capillary🐅

A

Epithial🐅
Their walls are very thin to allow substances to easily and quickly diffuse, or pass through them. 🐅
Capillaries are much thinner than arteries and veins, because their walls are made up of only a single layer of endothelial cells🐅

Q

How is blood transported back to the heart?🐌

A

The muscles contract and push the blood up the veins, however it doesnt fall back down after the muscles expand because valves stop it from falling down (like a check point). Goes up, reaches valve, goes up, reaches next valve.🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌

Q

What is double circulatory/circulation system?👁

A

Double circulation is a process in which blood flows twice through the heart. It includes two steps. 1.Systemic circulation. 👁2.Pulmonary circulation.👁

Q

What are the advantages of double circulatory?🎅🏻

A
  • Advantage of double circulation:Higher blood pressure is maintained. 🎅🏻
  • There is a greater flow of blood to the tissues. 🎅🏻
  • Double circulation gives the ability to create more pressure to pump blood round the whole body system. 🎅🏻
  • There is separation of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood.🎅🏻

Q

How does blood flow through the heart?🧝‍♀️

A

Blood enters the heart through two large veins, the inferior and superior vena cava, emptying deoxygenaited blood from the body into the right atrium. The pulmonary vein empties oxygeniated blood, from the lungs into the left atrium.🧝‍♀️

Q

What is corony heart disease?🖤

A

Coronary heart disease refers to your coronary arteries beoming narrower. Sometimes, a clot can obstruct the flow of blood to the heart muscle. CHD commonly causes angina pectoris (chest pain), shortness of breath, myocardial infarction, or heart attack.🖤🖤🖤

Q

How to cure CHD🖍🖍🖍🖍🖍🖍🖍🖍

A

Stents, you put a wire through your veins with a balloon wrapped in stent. You put the wire where the narrowing is and inflate the balloon. The stent should also exapnd since its wrapped around the balloon. You slide the balloon put and leave the stent in place, keeping enough room for your blood to flow through.🖍🖍 However you will have to take aspirin for a few years🖍🖍🖍

17
Q

Leaky valves

A

Advantages: blood flows through the heart properly

Disadvantages: risk of blood clotting (10 years of medication)

18
Q

Artifical pacemaker

A

Advantages: heart correctly beats

Disadvantages: not allowed through devices with magnets and cant keep phone in shirt pocket

19
Q

Artifical heart

A

Advantages: blood is pumped around the body

Disadvantages: wait for a donar with a tissue match, artifical hearts need a lot of equipment, risk of blood clotting, expensive
