Communicable Diseases Flashcards
What is a communicable disease?
Disease you catch of other people
What is a pathogen?
A disease causing micro-organism
How are pathogens spread?
skin contact bodily fluids airborne particles contact with feces touching a surface touched by an infected person Droplets Bites
How do pathogens damage the body?
They can make you ill cause of toxins
Destroy cells
It ‘hacks’ the muscle, making more viruses
How does surviving a virus/disease make you immune?
When a new disease enters our body our white blood cells makes antibodies or antitoxins and tries to destroy the virus, if it succeeds then it makes a memory cell so if that same disease enters our body again our white blood cells remeber how to get rid of it quickly
How to reduce the spread of disease
Wash hands
Get vaccinated
Safe sex
Measles
Measles is a highly contagious infectious disease caused by the measles virus. Symptoms usually develop 10–12 days after exposure to an infected person and last 7–10 days. Initial symptoms typically include fever, often greater than 40 °C (104 °F), cough, runny nose, and inflamed eyes. Also red rash skin

HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. It is the virus that can lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome or AIDS if not treated. … HIV attacks the body’s immune system, specifically the CD4 cells (T cells), which help the immune system fight off infections.
Tobacco mosaic virus
DescriptionTobacco mosaic virus is a positive-sense single stranded RNA virus in the genus Tobamovirus that infects a wide range of plants, especially tobacco and other members of the family Solanaceae. The infection causes characteristic patterns, such as “mosaic”-like mottling and discoloration on the leaves.
What are HIV and measles and tobacco mosaic viruses?
Viral pathogens
What are salmonella amd gonorrhoeo
Bacterial viruses
Gonohrrea
Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) that can infect both men and women. It can cause infections in the genitals, rectum, and throat. It is a very common infection, especially among young people ages 15-24 years.
