Fredrick Herzberg
Behaviorist: The Two Factor Theory of Motivation; Hygiene factors (salary, working conditions) are provided by the external environment. Motivation factors are intrusive (achievements, recognition).
Mary Parker Follett
Behaviorist: Theory that individual freedom was to be found in terms of the group. Being treated as an intelligent individual “power with rather than power over.”
Gilbreths’ goals
Eliminate soldiering and improve time and money by focusing on motion/ wasted motion. Restructure employer-employee relationship to be based on harmony and trust. Solves by setting fair rates avoiding changing rates arbitrarily to build the trust between them

Beliefs and principles around the kinds of goals and actions employees should pursue.
Peter Drucker
Coined “knowledge workers”, referring to those who work with, and manipulate ideas and data. Most valuable are the knowledge workers and their productivity; let them figure out the best way. Make work interesting and satisfying.
Soldiering
Workers deliberately restricted output, smoothed out production so to avoid the appearance of working too fast or too slow.
Taylor’s Goals
Eliminate soldiering by reducing waste of time, high profits. Solve by hiring the right people, figuring out the right amount of time something should be completed by.
Thought of as a structured process that:
- Planned
- Organization-wide
- Managed from the top
- Increase organizational effectiveness and health
- Planned interventions
Welfare capitalism
Refers to the practice of businesses providing welfare-like services to employees.
