What is a nomothetic theory?
Groups/classes that create universal laws by generalising across individuals
What is an idiographic theory?
Individual, unique, richness of an individual
What are some pros of single-case research?
Good source of ideas for research
Opportunities for innovation to inspire theories
Good for rare phenomenon
What are some disadvantages of single-case research?
Unable to establish cause and effect
Can be hard to generalise- lack of representativeness
Low internal and external validity
What is mean analysis?
Comparing mean values across certain observation points called a ‘phase’
What is level analysis?
Difference between last observation in one phase and first in the next
What is slope/trend analysis?
The rate at which changes appear within the different phases
What is latency?
How quick changes between different phases become apparent
