What is Cultural Relativism?
Appreciating that behaviour varies between cultures.
What is Ethnocentrism?
Emphasising the importance of the behaviour of one’s own culture.
What is Holism?
Understanding that whole cultures have the same experience.
What is universality?
Believing that some behaviours are the same for all cultures.
What is the nomothetic approach?
An approach to research which states we should use group studies and methods to create general laws which govern behaviour.
What is determinism?
Determinism is the idea that as people, we have no or limited free will involved in the decisions we make and that the concept of free will isn’t correct.
What is free will?
The idea that as humans we have full control over our actions.
What is alpha bias and what is beta bias?
Alpha bias = saying one gender is different to another
Beta bias = minimising differences in gender
What is reductionism?
Reductionism is the idea in psychology that behaviour can only be understood by breaking it down into it’s components and analysing them separately.
What are the types of determinism?
