Q

pKa effect on LA placental transfer

A

The pKa value for local anesthetics is important for transport across the placenta because the drugs can freely pass through the placenta while in the nonionized state. The pKa is the pH at which a drug has equal concentrations of ionized (protonated) and nonionized forms (base or nonprotonated).
