Q

Why do you want to join the RAF?

A

Interest in the forces from late teens but i did not consider myself to be the calibre of person who would even make it past the interview/fitness test stage.

After getting a lot more in to fitness I’ve discovered a lot about myself and had the realisation that if I set my mind to it I have as much of a chance as anyone else at getting in.

I’ve also not wanted to upset my family as i didn’t think they would be supportive but after discussing it with them last year I have their full support.

Partner thinks it’s the right thing for both of us but we are both aware that it will be tough, especially initially. She is aware that this is something i’m going to do with or without her support but i’m glad i have it.

I want a job i can be proud of where hard work is rewarded.

Q

What Branches have you applied for and why?

A

RAF Regiment. I am primarily interested in an infantry role. I could have applied for the army or marines, but the RAF seems to be a lot more modern in its methods.

I have also had more exposure to the RAF from a young age. Grandfather was a PTI and the planes fly over my house for the queen’s birthday every year. Air power is the most awesome aspect of the forces.

I would love to get involved with any aspect of Force Protection so RAFPOL would be ok but Regiment is the goal.

PTI officer would also be something i would enjoy. I think I’d also be suitable in a technical role due to my previous job history.

Q

What is your attitude to armed conflict?

A

Armed conflict should be avoided by diplomatic methods whenever possible but if our country or interests are at risk then it is the responsibility of our forces to resolve whatever situation they are faced with. I’d never enjoy killing anyone but sometimes it a necessary evil. Kill 1 to save 1000?
