Q

Second line of defence

A

-Uses nonspecific responses
fever: heats the body to weaken or kill the pathogen

inflammation: Blood stream directs more white blood cells to the effected area to kill the pathogen

Q

The third line of defense

A
  • Takes a few days to react
  • Sends B cells to identify and mark the pathogen
  • B cells create antibodies with a matching marker
  • Once the antibody binds with the pathogens, B cells release millions of antibodies to help fight off the pathogens
-After the pathogen is defeated the B cells remain in the blood which creates memory cells
-Immune to future attacks of the same pathogen

Vaccination

A

-Vaccines are made of dead/inactive pathogens.
-The pathogens trigger the 3rd line of defense and build memory without making us dangerously sick.
