Diffuse Stomach Cancer

  • Notice the signet ring cells
  • Infiltrates the stomach wall with mass composed of glandular cuboidal and columnar cells

Cavernous hemangioma

A
  • most common benign liver tumor

  • typically presents in adults 30-50 years old
  • tumors consist of cavernous, blood-filled spaces lined by single epithelial layer
  • Most patient are assymptomatic but may experience RUQ fullness

Tx: Surgical ressection (Excellent prognosis)

  • RBCs contain Heinz bodies (intracellular inclusions with denatured Hb)
  • May contain Bite cells due to splenic macrophages removing Heinz bodies

Reflux Esophagitis

A
  • Commonly occurs during GERD

Note: Elongation of papillae, basal cell hypertrophy, and intraepithelial eosinophils

  • Repeated epithelial injury can lead to intestinal metaplasia (Barrett’s esophagus) - where spamous epithellum is transformed to columnar epithelium

Light microscopy: consist of fasciles of spindle cells with variable amounts of fibrosis

Echinococcus granylosus

A

most common cause of hydatid cysts

occur in endemic areas in Middle East, southern South America, Iceland, Oceania

intial infection is assymptomatic

Liver is affected first, but can affect lung, muscle, or bone

cysts have “eggshell calcification” and are encapsulated that contain fluid and budding cells that will become daughter cells

** ASPIRATION is inadvisable**
