A

basement membrane thickening of retinal arterial capillaries= dec. metabolic exchange & retinal nutrition = weaken vascular walls = microaneurysm & fluid leakage

  • closure of capillaries = hypoxia & ischemia
  • neovascular tufts
  • hemorrhage in preretinal and vitreous space
  • traction retinal detachment
