Q

What is a GTT and why and when is it ordered in pregnancy?

A

Glucose Tolerance Test is done at 24-28 weeks. First one is a 50-gram 1 hour test. If over 135 (or 140), they fail and go to next test. 75-gram 3 hour GTT test is next. The 2 abnormals are needed for a diagnosis of gestational DM. So 1-hour is first. Failure leads to 3-hour GTT.
