Making comparisons
many one-syllable adjectives also add an umlaut to the vowel:

stark - stärker
jung - jünger
groß - größer

How to say something is the greatest
To say something is the greatest, the biggest, the tallest, etc., follow these steps:

1- Add –sten to the end of the adjective. (If the adjective ends in t or z, add -esten.)
2- AND put the word am before the adjective.
Again, watch out for those pesky umlauts in some of the one-syllable adjectives!

dunkel - am dunkelsten
Meine Haare sind am dunkelsten.

stark - am stärksten
Oma ist am stärksten.

kalt - am kältesten
Mein Bier ist am kältesten.

kurz - am kürzesten
Der Stift ist am kürzesten.
