1
Q
5’ capping enzyme
A
Adds protective 5’ cap to the 5’ end of the new RNA molecule
2
Q
What are the events of transcription in the correct order from beginning to end.
A
- General transcription factors bind to the TATA box
- RNA polymerase binds to the promoter
- DNA is unwound and RNA polymerase begins to add complementary nucleotides to the template strand
- An enzyme adds a 5’ cap to the 5’ end of the growing mRNA molecule
- RNA splicing removes introns and the exons are joined together
- When RNA polymerase transcribes a polyadenylation signal sequence, this signals proteins to cut the mRNA from the polymerase
- At the 3’ end of the mRNA, poly-A polymerase enzyme adds the poly-A-tail
3
Q
What happens in elongation
A
adds, and splices the RNA
4
Q
What happens during Termination
A
A poly A tail is added to the end
