Q

What did Moore at al find?

A

Mothers of anxious children less warmth and less autonomy, regardless of own anxiety (doesn’t support hypothesis 1). When mothers were anxious, catastrophizing (irrational thoughts) were present in most dyads. However, when mothers weren’t anxious, child anxiety increased the probability of maternal catastrophizing (having an anxious child meant that is biased the parents belief of reality)

Overprotective parenting - reduce children’s exposure to novelty and result in less ability to cope

Q

What did Flouri and Buchanan find?

A

Father involvement and mother involvement at age 7 predicted educational attainment by age 20
Father involvement was not more important for educational attainment when mother involvement was low rather than high - impact of father’s involvement doesn’t depend on mother’s involvement
Father involvement predicted educational attainment, even if mothers were already highly involved double boost was good
Not growing up in a 2-parent family didn’t weaken association between fathers or mother’s involvement and educational outcomes
