1

Q

A

-order effects could bias results, when participants improve/get worse at a task as they complete two or more conditions

Q

How to avoid order effects

A

Counterbalancing

-order of conditions is balanced so participants do not all complete the conditions in the same order as each other

Q

Independent groups design

A
  • doesn’t suffer from order effects as participants only complete one condition
  • suffer from participant variables (differences), can affect outcome
  • to minimise this, randomly allocate participants to different conditions of experiment

Q

Matched pairs design

A
  • advantage, specific participant variables are controlled for matching them up
  • disadvantage, TIME CONSUMING and doesn’t control all EVs

Q

Ethical procedures

A
  • INFORMED CONSENT, for children, parental consent is necessary
  • right to withdraw
  • debriefing then at end of study
  • data must be confidential
