1.) Engine failure during flight

A

Maintain directional control, pitch attitude, airspeed

Mixture forward, prop forward, throttle forward

Flaps & gear up

Identity dead foot

Verify by closing throttle

  • Above 3k feet, troubleshoot
  • Below 3k feet, feather prop, mixture idle-cut off, declare emergency, make a landing

Air Starting Procedure

A

Fuel selector - on
Throttle - 1/4 way of travel
Mixture - Rich below 5k, 1/2 way above 5k

Aux Fuel pump - low
Mags - on
Propeller -
• Unfeathering accumulator
- Prop: full forward to start unfeathering
- Prop: pull back to low rpm to avoid overspeed

• W/o unfeathering accumulator

- Prop: midrange
- Engage starter 
- If it fails to start: Clear engine by allowing it to windmill with mixture off, then when it fires, mixture - rich

When engine starts - Adjust throttle/prop/mixture
Aux fuel pump - off
Alternator switch - on
Oil pressure - check
Warm up engine - 2000 rpm and 15in Hg MAP
Power as required and trim

Try to determine reason for engine failure before attempting air start

Landing Gear emergency extension

A

Landing gear circuit breaker - pull

Landing gear handle - down

Remove cover from handcrank. Engage and turn counterclockwise 50x. Stow handcrank.

If electrical system is operative, check landing gear position lights and warning horn. (Check LDG GR RELAY circuit breaker engaged)

A

Failure of AUTO operation
- put switch in MANUAL, do not hold longer than 8 seconds

Failure of boots to deflate
- pull circuit breaker on pilots side panel
