Inflammation of the peritoneum

Primary: spontaneous bacterial peritonitis, ascites
Secondary: caused by something else eg bile

Localised guarding + rebound tenderness
Shoulder tip pain
Nausea + vomiting
Fever

Ascitic tap
Blood cultures

How would you treat peritonitis? (5)
A
ABC (airways, breathing, circulation) IV antibiotics: cefuroxime, metronidazole NG tube insertion Analgesia Surgery
