A
Recent upper respiratory tract infection + red eye + associated discharge

How are allergic conjunctivitis and blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids) excluded versus conjunctivitis?
A
Unilateral nature and lack of itching
(so in reverse for features, you’d expect bilateral involvement of eyes and itchiness in allergic conjunctivitis/blepharitis)

How is uveitis distinguished from conjunctivitis?
A
Pain or pupil changes suggests uveitis
- a lack of these rules out uveitis + strengthens conjuncitivitis

Distinguishing of traumatic cause or infective cause of conjunctivitis?
A
No recent trauma + recent contact with infected person = conjunctivitis
