Describe a risk assessment

A
  • A statatory process that identifies hazards that might cause harm to people and impliments appropriate control measures to reduce the risk of harm.
  • Employers must carry out by law and recorded in organisation 5 or more employees
    Example headings: Hazards, potential harm, control measures, review date
  • Likley be reviewed every 6 - 12 months
  • Risk: The likleyhood that someone will be harmed as a result of being exposed to a risk
  • Hazard: anything that could cause harm
  • Control measure: any action carried out in advance in reduce the risk posed by a hazard

  • Health & Safety Executive (HSE) - a national independent watchdog for work related heath, safety and illness
  • Helps companies meet H&S regulations and produces guidence documents
  • Investigates accidents in the workplace

Health and Safety at Work Act 1974

A
  • The main piece of legislation for British H&S law
  • To comply, companies must ensure as far as is reasonaably possible that all employees and visitors are safe in the workplace in terma of health, safety and welfare.
  • Compliance includes conducting risk assessments for product manufacture
