Why do you need to wash hands after removing gloves as PPE?
Gloves can have micro-tears due to defects, or after prolonged use - so risk of contamination
Provide moist environment for bacteria to live on - can multiply, and can be transferred to other fomites
Why are lotions containing oils, not recommended prior to wearing gloves?
Can cause breakdown of latex, and subsequent integrity of the glove
Alcohol gel must be allowed to dry, prior to putting on gloves
Latex is a natural rubber compound
What are issues with latex gloves in HCWs?
Type I hypersensitivity reactions - immediate
Type IV hypersensitivity reactions - delayed. Often not due to latex itself, but to other compounds used in gloves
when should eye protection be worn?
if risk of droplets/ aerosols coming in to contact with mucus membranes
