9.1 Units in Movement Flashcards
(19 cards)
What is Distance?
A measure for how far apart objects are from each other including obstacles
What is Displacement?
A measure for how far apart objects are from each other excluding obstacles
What is Speed?
a measure of how fast something moves
What is Average speed?
a measure of how fast something is overall
What is instantaneous speed?
The Speed at a particular moment
What is SL
Speed limit, usually measured in m/s or km/h
To convert from km/h to m/s what do you do?
Divide by 3.6
To convert from m/s to km/h what do you do?
Multiply by 3.6
Where do you put time on a graph?
X axis/horizontal axis
For the speed, distance, time triangle, what is on top?
Distance
What is an easy way to calculate speed on a distance-time graph?
Gradient
What does the gradient show on a distance-time graph?
Average speed
What does it mean if the line is flat on a distance-time graph?
No movement.
In a speed-time graph, what does the area below the graph represent?
Distance
What are the 2 units for acceleration?
m/s/s (m/s^2), km/h/h (km/h^2)
Define acceleration
The rate at which an object changes its velocity
What is terminal velocity?
Constant speed of a free falling object when air resistance prevents acceleration
What is the formula for final speed?
Initial speed + Avg acceleration multiplied by time
What is the formula for initial speed?
Final speed - Avg acceleration multiplied by time
