Q

Why the term fear neurosis was never generally adopted?

A

Richardson disapproved of the diagnosis exhaustion because it ‘had been too freely adopted by some doctors’, although he wrote that ‘battle exhaustion’ was ‘a useful label since it embodies the optimistic attitude which we must try to adopt’ (1978, p. 73).

Q

What was the structure of the field psychiatric team (FTP)?

A

They consisted of two psychiatrists and six psychiatric nurses, together with a driver. One FTP was allocated to each division with a further team for support troops in the rear. Having their own transport, they were designed for mobile warfare and commonly deployed the ‘B’ echelon of combatant units so that soldiers could be treated in the vicinity of their colleagues. Depending on the nature of battle and the facilities available, they could also be attached to field ambulances.
