Q

What are the components of a chemical reaction?

A

Reactants (the substances you start with) and the products (the new substances made)

Can be a word or symbol equation

Has an arrow to represent the reactants forming the products (never use equals sign)

Q

What does an equation being balanced mean?

A

When there is the same number of each types of atom on both sides of the equation. This is because the total mass of the products formed in a reaction is equal to the total mass of the reactants (because atoms are not destroyed or created)

Q

What are state symbols?

A

State symbols show the state of the compound/element:

(s) for solid
(l) for liquid
(g) for gases
(aq) for substances dissolved in water or aqueous solutions
