Q

What does the fibrous layer contain

A
  1. cornea
transparent- this is where light is refracted
  2. sclera
provides attachment to the extra ocular muscles.

Q

What does the vascular layer contain

A
  1. choroid (connective tissue and blood vessels. nourishment to layers)
  2. ciliary body (ciliary muscle and processes, controls shape of the lens. helps form acqeous humour)
  3. iris (circular strucutre, aperture in the middle (pupil) diameter of the pupil is affected by smooth muscle fibers.

Q

What does the inner layer contain

A
  1. pigment (outer) layer
single layers of cells attached to the choroid which absorbs the light
  2. neural (inner) layer
    photoreceptors, light-detecting cells

the anterior pigment layer is ‘nonvisual retina’ as it contains no neural layers just pigment

the posterior and lateral contain both pigment and neural so is called the ‘optic part of the retina’

Q

optic disc

A

where the optic nerve enters the retina
no light detecting cells

macula- highly pigmented, yellow
fovea- a depression in the macula high conc of light detecting cells

Q

anterior chamber

A

fluid filled area beween the cornea and iris
filled with aqeous humor
clear plasma like fluid which nourishes and protects the eye
drains via the trabecular meshwork

glaucoma
