A

Talk - Switch to tower, request permission for departure, OR make appropriate radio call on CTAF

Take Off Brief

A

Rotate at 55 kts
Climb at 73 kts
Malfunction prior to rotate - abort take off
Malfunction After rotate - climb to 1000 ft, enter the pattern, begin troubleshooting
Engine failure with runway remaining - Set it back down
Engine failure below 800’ - select landing site within 30* of the nose
Engine failure above 800’ - enter low key for nearest suitable runway

  9. Rotate 55
  10. Crab into wind
  11. Accelerate to 73
  12. Pitch for Vy 73

Procedure for Level Speed Change

A
  1. 90 KIAS
  2. Carb Heat - On
  3. Power - 1500 RPM
  4. Attitude - Increase pitch to maintain altitude
  5. Flaps - Extend in the white arc
  6. Trim - As required
  7. Power - Increase to 2100
  8. Attitude - pitch for airspeed, power for altitude
  9. Trim - As required
  10. Clear airspace
  11. Turn - 90 Degrees (10-15AOB) then reverse

Recovery

  1. Power - 2200-2300
  2. Carb Heat - Off
  3. Flaps - Retract incrementally
  4. Attitude - reduce to maintain level flight
  5. Accelerate - 90 KIAS
  6. Trim

Procedure for Power Off Stall

A

90 KIAS

  1. Clear
  2. Carb Heat - On
  3. Power - Idle
  4. Flaps - Extend incrementally
  5. Airspeed - 65
  6. Pitch - 5-10*

Recovery

  1. Relax back pressure
  2. Max - Throttle
  3. Carb Heat - Off
  4. Level Wings
  5. Ball - Right rudder
  6. Flaps - raise to 20*
  7. Pitch - Pitch smoothly
  8. Flaps - Retract remaining, level off next 500’

A

90 KIAS

  1. Clear
  2. Carb Heat - On
  3. Power - 1000rpm
  4. Airspeed - 65 KIAS
  5. Power - 2000 RPM
  6. Carb Heat - Off
  7. Pitch - 15-20*

Recovery

  1. Relax
  2. Max
  3. Level
  4. Ball
  5. Pitch to level off

Transition Procedures (4 T’s)

A
  1. Transition
    - Carb Heat On
    - Power to 1000 or idle
    - Flaps full
  2. Trim - 2 full down
  3. Turn - 1200-1500 past runway threshold (15AOB)
  4. Talk - Announce turn to Base leg at non-towered fields. Towered field will clear for landing before abeam position

  2. Airspeed - 65 KIAS
  3. Power - Adjust power for 3* glidepath
  4. Clear - Visually clear final
  5. Turn - Adjust AOB as needed

  1. Centerline - Intercept extended runway centerline
  2. Glidepath - Adjust sight picture
  3. Verify - Checklists and landing clearance, announce landing check complete, cleared to land
  4. Adjust - Continously
  5. Heels on the floodboard
  6. Flare - Nose up attitude to ensure main wheels touch first

A

At 10-15’ above runway

  1. Look - Look at far end for sense of sink rate
  2. Power - Redue to idle
  3. Attitude - Increase pitch
  4. Centerline - Maintain
    a. Rudder for nose
    b. Ailerons stop drift
  5. Attitude - Adjust pitch, top of cowling on horizon
  6. Brakes - As req

A

90 KIAS

  1. Clear Area: 30* turn, 15 AOB, reverse
  2. Clear: 90* turn, 30 AOB, reverse
  3. Clear: 180 turn, 45 AOB, reverse
  4. Rollout on original heading
  5. Reset power to normal cruise
